Praying for Ukraine

ree

Perspective on the war through The EYES of God's Word.

The Word of God makes it clear that as the end draws nearer so wars and the rumors of war will increase.

Matthew 24: 6-8

  • You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.

However let us make it clear, God is not the author of these wars! Who is then to blame? Well, God gave mankind a choice:

Deuteronomy 30:19

  • This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live

The nature of God versus the nature of Satan is clear.

John 10:10

  • The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

The war is the result of of the selfish ambitions of one wicked man (Putin), look what Scripture has to say:

James 3:16

  • For where there is envy and selfish ambition, there will also be disorder and wickedness of every kind.

Point on how to pray for Ukraine

Before going further I pray that God will open the eyes of your spiritual understanding. Do not read this with human understanding nor from a humanitarian point of view.

1 Corinthians 2:14

  • The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.

The first thing as a Christian is to pray that God will show to the people of Ukraine what they (as a nation) has to repent of. I know the reaction of many will be that the Ukrainian people are not the aggressors; so why must they repent?! Well turn to Scripture. Whenever a nation is oppressed there was always a reason. Daniel understood this so well (please study Daniel chapter 8 for a greater understanding). Daniel and the nation of Israel is in exile. Then he reads a prophecy of Jeremiah and spiritual understanding comes to him. He understands why the nation is in the situation they are and he knows exactly what must be done. What follows then (Daniel 8) is a prayer of repentance. And is prayer is not "God, for give them for they have sinned"! No! He prays "God for give us, for we have sinned!"

2 Chronicles 7:14

  • if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

Secondly, we do not pray for vengeance!

Romans 12:19-21

  • Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Thirdly we Pray for God to intervene in the matter! Look again at the prayer of Daniel in Daniel chapter 8!

Fourthly we ask God to hear the cries of innocent blood (not with a heart filled with vengeance - wanting God to punish) but for God to act! From the beginning God has heard the cries of innocent blood!

Genesis 4:10

  • And the LORD said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood is crying to me from the ground.

And importantly, we pray for the salvation of Souls (this is the most important part). For every time a person dies without Jesus it is another soul that is lost for eternity - and we know many die in this conflict.

NB. This is not a CLOSED LIST. When praying for Ukraine DO IT INTHE SPIRIT and ask GOD TO DIRECT YOU!
